As a result of the deregulation process that began in the late 1990’s, you have been given the power to choose your energy supplier for electric and natural gas. The delivery of that power will remain the same, using the same power company, power lines/grid and customer service (for maintenance work and emergency repairs) you are currently using. The only thing that changes is that your dollars flow to energy generated to sources that will now be clean with wind as its source, and you’ll be doing your part for the environment.
Deregulation creates a competitive environment with the goal of driving prices lower and/or stabilizing them, while providing the consumer with the option to choose the type of energy they want to use. Allowing for competition in the energy production space should also spur on innovation in new technology and the clean energy space.
If you live and/or own a business in the 20+ states where electricity is a deregulated market (NY being of them), you can now choose your electricity provider (the generator of electricity). Choosing to go clean is now an option readily available for your home and business, not unlike choosing your wireless provider or phone company. Sometimes the right choice is the easy choice.
